Nativity Scenes from Mexico

This Mexican Christmas 2023, the Casa de Mexico in Spain Foundation presents a Mexican nativity scene made with dried evergreen flowers, depicting the Virgin Mary, Saint Joseph, the Three Kings, the Archangel, the Shepherds and their animals, as well as the Comet that announces the arrival of the Baby Jesus. There are also multi-coloured screens with pre-Hispanic textures made by the Raymundo Sánchez “Biushita Ancestral” family of artisans from Oaxaca.

The Christmas tree on the façade is made up of baubles made from gourds from the State of Oaxaca painted in black and hand-engraved by the artisan José Cruz Sánchez. The silver and golden tin spheres are made by the artisan Tirso Juventino Cuevas Velásquez using a hand-embossing technique. All the artisans who have worked on this site have received national and international recognition.
